Support your carbon footprint
Not sure if you’re ready for verification?
If your organization already measures or reports its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, independent verification can provide greater confidence in that information.
At Control Union, we review GHG inventories, statements and projects under international standards, assessing the information, data and methodology used.

What can verification provide?
-
Greater confidence
Provides an independent assessment of the reported information.
-
Greater assurance for communications
Allows reviewed information to be presented to customers, stakeholders, headquarters or other recipients.
-
Preparation for new requirements
Can help respond to supply chains, reporting frameworks or commitments that require independently supported climate information.
What is a carbon footprint?
A carbon footprint quantifies the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions associated with an organization, activity, project or product. Different gases are usually expressed in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e), allowing them to be combined under a common unit.
Understanding these emissions helps identify where an organization’s climate impact is generated and provides information to set priorities, manage reductions and report results.
Within an organization, emissions are usually analysed by considering different sources:
Why do companies measure and report GHG emissions?
Emissions information is being used for an increasing number of purposes.
Measurement and verification are different activities. The company (or whoever develops its inventory) quantifies and prepares the information. Control Union acts as an independent third party to assess it.
Today, companies may need information about their emissions for a variety of reasons:
-
Sustainability and ESG reporting;
-
Requests from customers or headquarters;
-
Climate commitments and targets;
-
Internal management and emissions monitoring;
-
Participation in supply chains.

What does Control Union do?
Control Union provides independent validation and verification services for GHG information.
Our work consists of reviewing a GHG statement against defined criteria, assessing the methodology used, data, calculations, boundaries, information sources, controls and evidence relevant to the agreed scope.

- Validation applies to statements related to future or projected results, assessing the assumptions and methodologies that support them.
The objective is to provide an objective and independent assessment of the information presented.
