Deforestation Free Standard
The Deforestation-Free Standard (DFS) is a certification scheme that verifies that products are free from deforestation and comply with regulations such as the EUDR. It applies to various types of organizations (producers, traders, processors, and groups), tailoring the requirements to their specific role in the supply chain.
About the standard
DFS is a standard developed by Control Union that enables different organizations to demonstrate that their products are not associated with deforestation or forest degradation, aligning with regulations such as the EUDR. It can be applied to multiple commodities and considers the entire supply chain, from production to commercialization, depending on the actor in the chain.
The standard is based on a due diligence system, risk assessment, and independent third-party verification, including traceability requirements, legal compliance, environmental protection, and respect for social rights. This ensures transparency and reliability in information regarding the origin of products.
Benefits
It enables access to demanding international markets, reduces regulatory risks (especially regarding the EUDR), and demonstrates compliance in a verifiable way. In addition, it improves traceability, strengthens corporate reputation, and provides greater confidence to clients and stakeholders.
