CFR – Clean Fuel Regulation
Clean Fuel Regulations is a Canadian scheme aimed at reducing the carbon intensity of transport fuels (gasoline, diesel, hydrogen, electricity) through a progressive reduction of emissions and a system of tradable credits.

Clean Fuel Regulation
About the standard
This standard is performance-based and requires suppliers to gradually reduce fuel carbon intensity to 15% below 2016 values by 2030, generating credits through the use of clean fuels, technology improvements or carbon capture. It is based on a robust technical system that includes calculation tools (LCA model), third-party verification and a credit market to ensure the integrity of the system.
Benefits
Beyond being a regulatory obligation in Canada, CFR compliance can be integrated as part of a company’s corporate climate strategy. Participating in emissions reduction schemes with traceability and third-party verification strengthens ESG commitments, raises the profile with investors and customers, and aligns the operation with global goals such as the SDGs or the Paris Agreement. CFR certification not only enables market access, but also communicates environmental leadership and preparedness for future regulations in other countries.
